The Princes Suite the former chamber of Prince Jagat Singh, son of Maharani Gayatri Devi Suite is contemporary in its design. An oasis of calm relaxation, Princes Suite at Rambagh offers a host of facilities and services to enhance your experience. Erstwhile chambers of the royal family, several rooms were amalgamated and carefully restored with period furniture to create the Princes Suite. Large French windows lead to a charming terrace overlooking the Oriental Gardens, which offer the sunlight to stream in, warmly illuminating the main lobby of the suite. Ideal for private dining, relaxing over drinks or sunbathing, the terrace offers a perfect romantic escape. The master bedroom of the suite is a fresh airy chamber with abundant use of rich textured fabrics, warm teak woods and delicate object dart which bring alive the princely days. Its cusped arches and fretted screens reflect an architecture that seamlessly blends the best of Mughul and Rajput influences. Themed on the life of Late Rajmata Gayatri Devi, the suite has a soft feminine feel to it and showcases her liking of the Old world European style décor, which, embodies an aura of elegance, romance & style, all hallmarks of the great lady. Walls of the bed room are adorned with alternating solid yellow and gold damask wall coverings interspersed with gilded hand carved acanthus leaf panels. Colour scheme of the bed room is an explosion of red amidst shades of yellows and gold. Bed room features a uniquely styled bed with a wraparound head board with a beautiful serpentine carving in the centre which provides a striking contrast to the luxurious tufted silk that surrounds it. The suite is full of stunning furniture pieces including a floor screen adorned with antique gold leaf work on a carved crackle base and a wrought iron girandole. Walk in wardrobe features leather clad sliding doors with hand nailed patterns. Lamps and chandeliers are exquisite hand crafted wrought iron pieces with delicately painted shades of mica, which cast a warm and welcome glow. The floor is spanned by a plush carpet inspired by old Savonnerie French carpets. Artwork showcases her life and includes portraits and old photographs. The sitting room is adorned by teak wood panelled walls culminating in a gilded cornice. The warmth of the sitting room is further enhanced by a stone and wood fire place. Furniture is inspired by various European styles and includes a Regency tray top coffee table on a turned spider leg cross base and a Louis XV bureau plat desk with a serpentine top, cabriole legs & gold accents. The original oval shaped bathroom has been restored to its erstwhile glory and features finest quality pristine white marble slabs from Makrana, Lion head feature spout in the tub, French shell design single piece marble support for vanity counter and Italian handmade gold and ivory mosaic tiles in the shower.
MAHARANI SUITE
Maharani suite is dedicated to the Maharanis of Jaipur Royal family: Late His Highness Sawai Man Singh IIs first wife Maharani Marudhar Kanwar, sister of Maharaja Sumer Singh of Jodhpur, Maharani Kishore Kanwar, niece of his first wife and daughter of Maharaja Sumer Singh and Maharani Gayatri Devi who belonged to Cooch Behar. Character of the suite is typically Oriental wherein a grand arched door leads to the entrance vestibule with patterned marble floor, traditional Jaipur "araish" work on walls and antique brass pendant lights. A beautiful Mughal miniature painting of peacocks adorns the wall. The vestibule leads to the sitting room wherein huge arched windows overlooking private gardens fill the space with diffused north light, making it a welcome place to sit anytime of the day. Apart from other beautifully crafted furniture, the sitting room features a coconut shell border and gilded metal floor screen. The bed room in traditional golds and reds is striking with a warm Mahogany crotch dado on the walls and hand painted traditional Jaipur bootis/motifs. Huge oval Venetian mirrors add to the charm. The bedroom also features a stunning screen in a mix of wood and gold chinoiserie work. Toilet is an awe inspiring space with high ceilings and walls clad with marble, framing panels of lead work glass in a Mughal jali pattern. Huge Venetian mirror behind the vanity counter, copper gilded and mirror work ceiling & coves and intricately carved vanity counter add to the luxurious feel of the space. The walk in wardrobe is adorned with ornate cast brass and wood sliding doors. Finest of Indian silks with hand embroidered details have been used for soft furnishings. An ornate Mughal carpet with a lattice and flower pattern spans the floor of the bed room while a fine Persian throw rug adds to the luxurious feel of the sitting room. Chandeliers and lamps feature hand crafted wrought iron frames, amber crystals and embroidered Shantung silk shades. Powder room is a feature space with inlaid marble floor and dado, carrot red coloured lime finish on walls topped with a hand painted peacock in silver. The space also features a blooming lotus shaped wash basin in tumbled bronze with a back drop of hand crafted jharokha inspired silver bordered mirror.
PEACOCK SUITE
Named for the two beautiful peacocks made in colored glass on one of the walls of the suites, this suite is contemporary in its styling and décor. Guests will marvel Outside, a private sit-out overlooks the Mughal Terrace and beautiful sunken gardens. The Peacock Suite also has a separate washroom for visitors.
MAHARAJA SAWAI MAN SINGH SUITE
Themed on the life of Late His Highness Sawai Man Singh II, the suite has a masculine feel to it, in line with its nomenclature. The suite features a Regal Duck egg colour scheme interspersed with pastel oranges and greens. Accent hand painted furniture sitting in the back drop of a dark wood dado on walls topped with an antique metallic finish wall paper. Worth mentioning is a handsome sculpted wood & brass semi-circular free standing desk, which looks good from all angles, hand crafted silver coffee table and a verdigris patina finish brass repousse four panel floor screen. An elaborate jharokha seating with opulent fabrics, hand embroidered cushions and custom brocade draper hanging from thick solid wood curtain rods. Artwork theme revolves around the life of Late His Highness Sawai Man Singh II, showing different facets of his life as an army officer to a Polo player to a dedicated husband. Sepia toned portraits of his five children add to the charm of the room. The floor is spanned by a plush carpet inspired by old Savonnerie French carpets. Hand crafted Venetian mirrors add to the luxurious feel of the suite.
POTHIKHANA
Literally translated "Pothi" refers to book and "khana" refers to department; true to its name the suite features floor to ceiling antique teak wood panelled walls that recall the feel of an old fashioned library. Wood and metal finish elegant furniture compliment the wood panelled walls including TV console in decorative metal work in aged finish with dark emperador marble top, heavily carved & gilded headboard crowns, night stands with stencilled pattern in antique gold leaf and Black & gold Coromandel style floor screen. Customized hand embroidered fabrics with a pastel green base accented with carrot and ivory colours. The fabrics are inspired by a series developed for Buckingham Palace, London. Toilet features rich silver travertine marble with a feature hand carved free standing vanity counter. Tub is nestled in a niche decorated with carved marble ionic columns. The floor is spanned by a plush carpet inspired by old Savonnerie French carpets. Chandeliers and lamps feature hand blown glass.
BADAL MAHAL SUITE
The name literally means "a palace among the clouds". The name was chosen as this beautiful room occupies the topmost floor of the palace. The living area features an alcove with a large day bed facing the well manicured Mughal gardens - An ideal corner for a siesta during those lazy afternoons. The bedroom features two queen sized beds adorned with hand carved wooden canopies. The one of its kind massive split level bathroom is clad in a highly polished red marble. The lower level features walls adorned with beautiful hand painted frescoes and twin marble sinks. A short flight of marble stairs leads one to a large Jacuzzi in the upper level surrounded by French windows. RANG NIWAS SUITE
This is one of the most beautiful suites in the palace. A spectacular corridor lined with hand painted frescoes leads to the Rang Niwas suite. A silver parrot suspended from the ceiling gives company to the lucky few who have the privilege to stay in this suite. The room features a mirrored fireplace for those rare chilly evenings. An alcove in the corner with floor to ceiling windows and cosy sofa seating overlooks the fountains and the mughal gardens beyond.
