THE HOTEL
The Cycladic island of Folegandros plays host to Anemi Hotel with all the drama of a Greek myth. Against the rocky terrain of the village of Karavostásis, the hotel makes a memorable impression with twelve two-floor whitewashed buildings, unique in their delicate combination of Cycladic architecture and contemporary Greek lines. Inside, 42 rooms and suites are peppered with furniture by the likes of Charles & Ray Eames, B&B Italia, and Vitra, brought together by designer Stavros Papagiannis who has successfully injected Anemi Hotel's interiors with an underlying mood of simplicity and modernity.
MADE BY ORIGINALS
Despite studying and practicing medicine, Stavros Papayiannis co-founded the DeArte design studio in 1988. After a self-taught journey of interior design, graphic design, and art commissions, he founded Stage Design Office, which is responsible for the interiors of Anemi Hotel. Already making waves in the design world, Papayiannis is keeping up his reputation as one of Athens’ most exciting designers.
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
Anemi Hotel is a fusion of old Cycladic architecture and Modern Greek style, with the old and new acknowledged in equal measures. Despite the injection of the contemporary, the property blends harmoniously with its location: architect Alexandros Samaras limited the structure to two stories in order to keep the serenity of the surrounding scenery, where low-level buildings are commonplace. Samaras’ smooth-edged corners, whitewashed exteriors, and verandas and balconies also reinforce the importance of local design. Reflecting the simplicity of the exterior, the interiors are characterized by white-on-white palettes with the cool consistency broken by handmade carpets from the east coast of Folegandros, and furniture from names such as Flos, B&B Italia, and Charles & Ray Eames.
