关于本酒店
THE HOTEL
AthensWas is a glossy, marbled ode to one of the city’s famed architectural highlights: classic modernism. The frenzied glory of a movement that thrived from the 1950s to the 1970s has been reenergized here in a fresh, modern way with iconic furniture by masters such as Le Corbusier, Ettore Sottsass, Michael Graves, and Konstantin Grcic. Steps from the Acropolis, Syntasma, and other historical gems, the 21-room hotel also masterfully incorporates the timeworn city’s rich past with elements that reference ancient Greek forms and architecture. Modernity, however, reigns in the restaurant and rooftop bar where quality and simplicity are valued and the best views of Athens relished.
MADE BY ORIGINALS
Despite studying and practicing medicine, Stavros Papayiannis co-founded the DeArte design studio in 1988. After a self-taught journey of interior design, graphic design, and art commissions, he founded Stage Design Office, which is responsible for the interiors of AthensWas. Already making waves in the design world Papayiannis is keeping up his reputation as one of Athens’ most exciting designers.
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN
Built in 2015, AthensWas is a celebration of modern Greek design with spacious guest rooms, large balconies, and a glass-walled lobby. The interior design is glossy and cool in tone: Greek marble lends an opulent palette to the staircases, walls, floors, bathrooms, and verandas, while rich walnut furniture is complemented by the soft lighting of Konstantin Grcic. A permanent exhibition by Stefanos Samios sprawls throughout the hotel, featuring portraits of sculptures from the National Archaeological Museum.
