Designer India Mahdavi has created a space offering functional originality from rooms to rooftop. The hotel is a unique flirtation with the French neoclassical style and a new encounter with Mexico City. MADE BY ORIGINALS The duo behind Grupo Habita has been bringing a design revolution to Mexico’s hospitality industry since 2000. Investment banker Moisés Micha and citrus farmer Carlos Couturier have built up a collection of over a dozen diverse, award-winning hotels across Mexico and more recently in the USA. The ideological pair excels at choosing untapped locations in Mexico where their can integrate their vision into the personality of the city. As they put it: “It’s about creating experiences for your guests and making the world better through hospitality.” ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN Housed in a listed 1928 French neo-classical apartment block, CONDESA df’s restoration was overseen by Mexican architect Javier Sánchez. Everything is centered around a shaded inner patio in the style of a Mexican hacienda, where large white shutters along the inner balcony floors filter the light, creating a chiaroscuro effect. The bold and imaginative interiors are the work of Parisian designer India Mahdavi who designed everything from custom furniture to the cutlery. The result is modern, simple, and elegant, with a wealth of personality.
