His 8,000-acre farm in Veracruz is one of the largest exporters of sustainably grown Persian limes in all of Mexico. Couturier’s sophistication and warmth are echoed in his hotels, which are modern, intimate, and inspired by nature. Along with business partner Moisés Micha, their Grupo Habita collection has about a dozen celebrated and award-winning hotels across Mexico and the United States. ARCHITECTURE & DESIGNAzúcar is a return to the pleasures of simple things. Low-lying whitewashed palapas (bungalows), each with a thatched roof and an intimate terrace, overlook the stunning Gulf of Mexico, as do the locally made hammocks that stretch across every private patio. The hotel features spare design, organic materials, and open-air public spaces, as well as red-cedar driftwood used as supports for the beds and as beams and doorframes.
